Who Is Vassago?

Vassago (also spelled Vasago or, in the Book of the Office of Spirits, Usagoo) is the third demon listed in the Ars Goetia, the first book of the 17th-century grimoire the Lesser Key of Solomon. He's ranked a Mighty Prince, described as of the same nature as Agares, and — notably for a text mostly cataloguing hostile spirits — as "of a Good Nature." His office is to tell magicians of past and future events and locate lost objects, and he rules twenty-six legions of spirits.

A separate source, the Book of the Office of Spirits, lists him under the name Usagoo and describes him appearing as an angel, "just and true in all his doings," with the power to incite love and reveal hidden treasure, governing twenty spirits in that account. The two descriptions don't fully agree on legion count or exact powers, but both circle the same core identity: a demon of revelation rather than ruin — pulling back the curtain on what's hidden, whether that's the future, the past, buried treasure, or the thing you swore you just had in your hand five minutes ago.

Practitioners today tend to lean on Vassago for scrying, divination, and locating lost objects or information — arguably the most "helpful roommate" energy of any demon in the Goetia.
