Bornite, also known as peacock ore, is a copper-iron sulfide mineral with both geological and metaphysical properties. Geologically, it's a valuable copper ore and forms brittle, metallic masses that tarnish to an iridescent purplish color upon exposure. Metaphysically, it's believed to promote ease of the spirit, groundedness, and moral guidance, and is used as a chakra stone to activate and align energy centers.
Chalcopyrite and Bornite are both copper-iron sulfide minerals, but they have distinct properties and appearances. Chalcopyrite is known for its brassy yellow color, while bornite exhibits a brown to copper-red color that often tarnishes to iridescent shades of blue and purple.  Both are referred to as "peacock ore."  

Geological Properties:
  • Composition: Bornite is a sulfide mineral composed of copper, iron, and sulfur (Cu5FeS4).
  • Appearance: It typically appears as a metallic, brassy color on fresh fractures, but quickly tarnishes in air to a beautiful iridescent display of purplish, blue, and green tones. 
  • Brittle and Massive: Bornite forms brittle, granular, or compact masses, making it a valued copper ore. 
  • Tarnishing: The iridescent colors, for which it's also called "peacock ore," are the result of a thin layer of oxides and sulfides forming on its surface. 
  • Occurrence: While not rare, true natural bornite specimens with the iridescent coloring are quite rare. 
Metaphysical Properties:
  • Spiritual Meaning: Bornite is believed to promote ease of the spirit, helping you stay grounded, especially when dealing with morality-related issues.
  • Moral Compass: It's thought to encourage integration of personal values with new information, guiding you to make just and balanced decisions.
  • Chakra Stone: Some crystal healers recommend using bornite to activate and align all the chakras (energy centers).
  • Emotional Support: It may help to alleviate emotional instability and promote a sense of calm and balance.
