Larvikite
Larvikite is a feldspar-rich monzonite, sometimes known as "black moonstone" or "Blue Pearl," found in Norway. It's characterized by its blue or iridescent sheen and is considered a stone of inner transformation, helping with acceptance and adaptation to change.
Geological Properties:
- Composition: Primarily feldspar (75-85%), with dark minerals like olivine, amphibole, pyroxene, and biotite also present.
- Structure: Phaneritic, compact, with a coarse-grained to very coarse-grained texture.
- Color: Greyish-blue, which can change to brown during weathering.
- Appearance: Exhibiting a light blue "flashlike reflections" on some surfaces, often referred to as a "pearl-gray iridescence".
- Formation: Larvikite is a plutonic rock, the deep-seated equivalent of rhomb porphyry lavas.
