Barite

Barite, also known as Baryte, is a mineral composed of barium sulfate (BaSO₄). Its name comes from the Greek word barys, meaning “heavy,” a nod to its unusually high specific gravity. Barite commonly forms in hydrothermal veins, sedimentary rocks, and as a byproduct of mining. It is often found alongside lead, zinc ores, fluorite, calcite, and quartz.

Geologically, Barite occurs in a range of colors, from white and colorless to shades of blue, yellow, red, and brown—depending on impurities. One of the most beautiful forms is the Barite Desert Rose, a natural rosette-shaped cluster of barite crystals, often found in arid regions.
