CULTURAL SIGNIFICANCE:
Amun (also spelled Amon or Amen) is an ancient Egyptian god associated with the unseen, creation, air, and kingship. His name means "The Hidden One", reflecting his role as the mysterious source behind all existence.
Originally a local Theban deity, Amun rose to national prominence during the Middle Kingdom and became the chief deity of the Egyptian pantheon when merged with the sun god Ra as Amun-Ra—symbolizing both hidden and revealed divinity.
He was revered as a creator god, protector of truth and justice, and patron of pharaohs. His temples, especially at Karnak, were among the grandest in Egypt, embodying his majesty and cosmic authority.
