Brigid – Celtic Goddess of Fire, Healing, and Sacred Inspiration

CULTURAL SIGNIFICANCE:

  • Brigid (also spelled Brighid or Bríde) is one of the most revered Celtic goddesses, honored in both pagan and Christian traditions. In pre-Christian Ireland, she was the goddess of poetry, healing, smithcraft, fertility, and sacred wells.

  • Her influence was so profound that she was later syncretized as Saint Brigid in Irish Christianity, retaining her association with hearth, healing, and protection.

  • As a triple goddess, Brigid embodies inspiration (poet), transformation (smith), and restoration (healer). She is a patron of midwives, bards, artisans, and peacemakers, often associated with early spring and the festival of Imbolc.
